January 29, 2025 - Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival
Nothing like kites on a lake in January!
This month has been busy, busy, busy for me with new trip inquiries flying in! But it's important to take time to check out the craziness that is Minnesota culture so that's just what the kids and I did on Sunday: we experienced the Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival for the first time.
This festival is pretty much what you'd expect from the name: people bring their kites to the frozen lake and fly them. There are also art shanties set up on the lake showcasing local artist's work, and some activities and food trucks on the shore.
Lessons we learned:
Do not be deceived by a high of 34° and forego the snowgear. When you are standing outside for 30 min waiting for the shuttle to get you to the event, that 34° starts feeling more like a 4°.
Another reason to wear snowpants (other than to beat the cold) is that they had some cool ice slides onto the lake to slide down. Probably wouldn't feel as good without snowpants.
Bring a kite (doh! Mom fail there....).
Bring a small bag of marshmallows - the Minneapolis Park board was giving out S'mores kits and had some fire pits, but my kiddos wanted more roasted marshmallows than the 1 that came in the pack.
Irish Adventure is coming up!
We are down to less than 2 months until I take a group of 15 people over to Ireland to experience St. Paddy's Day in Dublin (and see the amazing countries of Ireland and Northern Ireland). If you'd love to travel someplace special with your very own travel advisor by your side, don't worry -
I've got another trip up my sleeve for January of 2026!
I'll be giving first dibs on registration to my Irish Adventure travelers, but then will be announcing it to all of the rest of my newsletter subscribers before I open it up to the general public!

Referrals are my favorite compliment!
Even if you're not in the mode of planning travel right now, I'm sure you know some people who might be thinking of an upcoming trip they'd like to take. Referrals are a small business owner's dream compliment - especially when I get amazing clients like my existing ones are!
Please tell your friends about me and encourage them to reach out or schedule a travel consultation if they're thinking about travel in the future. I truly appreciate referrals SO MUCH!
