The Land of Flamenca & Tapas

With a long history that is different than most of its European relatives, Spain is a terrific place to travel to. Situated on the Iberian peninsula in Western Europe, Spain has influence from not only its European neighbors, but also exhibits unique Moorish architecture and some Islamic ties from their neighbors to the south. 

Spain's weather makes it an equally desirable destination, as in general, it is a very temperate climate. The northern portion of the country can get a bit chilly, but south and even central Spain stay more mild throughout the year. There is also an abundance of sunny days, making even the chillier days seem not too bad.

Spain is renowned for many things, but some of the most visited sites include La Sagrada Familia, a unique cathedral in Barcelona, the Alhambra in Granada (shown in the image above), and the Prado Museum in Madrid, where you can find tons of amazing Spanish and European art. The religious or spiritual person is likely to have heard of La Camina, the pilgrimage path that is in northwestern Spain, and we can't go without mentioning Spain's many beaches and resorts for those looking for more relaxation.

Basque Country

The northeastern side of Spain, sharing a border with France, is considered Basque country - and includes its own language, traditions, and unique landscape compared to the rest of Spain. It's known for excellent cuisine and has lovely farms in the rural areas. This is definitely a spot for the foodie traveler to see.

Seville

The Moorish influence in Seville is obvious, and the city has 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Cathedral is the 3rd largest in Europe and sits on the site of a 12th century mosque. Many of the buildings reflect Islamic and Renaissance architecture (like the square in the image above).

Best time to travel

All year - although July and August can get quite hot, and December through March runs cool, so keep that in mind when planning your trips.
