Norway & Iceland - 9 days

My client and her 18 year old son wanted to do a mother-son trip to a place he had a lot of interest in -- Norway! He wanted to learn more about Viking culture, see the fjords and landscapes, and experience a bit of Norwegian culture. They decided to do a Hurtigruten Coastal Express cruise as not only will it show them a ton of natural beauty as it goes up the coast, they also will have plenty of excursion opportunities to meet local fishing villages, learn about Viking culture and history, and even learn about the culture and traditions of the Sami people in the north!

Itinerary

Day 1 - Bergen

As with any cruise, I always recommend getting in a day early to avoid any complications with possible flight delays, missed connections, etc. They will spend a night in Bergen before embarking on their cruise.

Day 2 - Bergen - Embarkation

Today's the big day, they embark on the MS Midnatsol for their cruise up the coast of Norway!

Day 3 - Geiranger with Trollstigen Pass

Their first excursion is checking out the scenic Trollstigen Pass as well as Eidsdalsvatnet Lake and Gudbrands Gorge! Natural beauty and something amazing to behold.

Day 4 - Trondheim

Today they'll experience Trondheim on bikes as they cycle through Norway's most bike-friendly city!

Day 5 - Svartisen Glacier & Viking History

This morning they will visit the Svartisen Glacier by boat, hopefully seeing a few sea eagles along the way. Later they'll enjoy a history less on Vikings as they check out the location of the largest Viking building ever discovered (all within the building that has been replicated to match the ruins).

Day 6 - Tromsø Tour

Today they'll take a tour of Tromsø, checking out the Arctic Cathedral and a cable car ride up to the mountains for a vista that can't be beat!

Day 7 - Fishing Village Visit & Sami Culture

Today they'll have two excursions: one to a local fishing village, where they can interact with the locals and learn about life in the Arctic, and one where they'll meet a local Sami family and learn how they herd reindeer and hear Sami folk music.

Day 8 - Disembarkation - Flight to Reykjavik

Today is their last day on the cruise and they will transfer to the airport to take their flights to Reykjavik. They'll have nearly a 24 hour layover, so they will be going into the city center and enjoying a Premium experience at Lava Show!

Day 9 - Reykjavik Sky Lagoon

You can't be in Iceland without a geothermal spa experience, so they'll enjoy a couple hours at the Sky Lagoon in Reykjavik before heading back to the airport to complete their journey home.
