TÜRKIYE? DON'T YOU MEAN TURKEY?

Türkiye, or Turkey as most English speaking countries have called it until recently, is a unique country straddling Europe and Asia. It's not often that one city (in this case, Istanbul) can claim residence in two continents! Being off the Mediterranean and near the Middle East, it has a vast history spanning multiple empires and country names. 

Many flock to Türkiye for the cuisine - kebabs, kofte (meatballs), and lahmacun (super thin pizza type foods). Others for the history as the country is one of the biggest melting pots of the world, having seen people come and go for centuries. The classical literature fan will enjoy visiting the sites of the Illiad, those interested in religious sites will find plenty to see, and even the nature lover won't be left out in this beautiful country - from forests to beaches to mountains, and everything in between.

Topkapi Palace, Istanbul

The Topkapi Palace is a large museum which once was the main residence of the Ottoman sultans. The palace was extended over the centuries and today, it needs at least half a day to do it justice on Turkey vacations. The palace complex has hundreds of rooms and chambers, but only the most important are open to the public. There are fantastic panoramic views of the city and the Bosphorus from the gardens.

Cappadocia

Cappadocia is a very unusual area which can be described as a wonder of nature with its fantastic landscapes and underground features. Featuring fresco-adorned rock-cut churches, cave houses, fairytale chimneys, underground cities and long deep gorges once used by Christians fleeing Roman soldiers, it is a unique place to visit. You can even stay in a cave hotel hewn out of rock!

April to Mid-June is the most temperate. September to Mid-October can also be nice.
