April 19, 2023 - Destination Spotlight: Australia
AUSTRALIA
Australia is a vast country with no shortage of incredible destinations and experiences. The eight states and territories stretch across an entire continent, so exploring them all in one trip isn’t usually possible (Australia is about the same size as the USA!). But that's ok, it just means you get to come back again sometime in the future!
Whether you are looking for cultural experiences like learning more about the significance of Uluru to the native Aboriginal people, or you're more into checking out the many animals unique to this area, or even if you want to explore the many cities and urban sprawl, Australia has something for you! Check out two distinct and unique areas to explore on a future trip:
Great Barrier Reef
Spanning over 1,430miles down Australia’s eastern coastline, The Great Barrier Reef offers an abundance of coastal experiences unlike anywhere else in the world. Swim amongst the stunning coral formations, giant clams, rare species of whales, and six of the world's seven marine turtle species, not to mention the over 1,600 species of fish who call this aquatic wonderland home.
Hobart
Located on the island state of Tasmania, Hobart is the perfect place to pause, reconnect and take a breath of some of the freshest air in the world. Visitors can get a taste of the things that make Australia great, from fine dining and cultural attractions to stunning natural beauty. There's an endless parade of outdoor activities within reach of the city: epic alpine mountaineering, ocean kayaks and World Heritage-listed hikes.
Best time to travel
Because Australia is so vast, it is great to visit year round. You just need to keep in mind where you want to see, as certain locations are better in different seasons (e.g. Uluru is best between May - September as the desert is less hot in Australia's winter).
Recommended duration
1-2 weeks
While there’s an endless list of epic experiences and destinations to visit in Australia, you can comfortably tour some of the highlights in a week or two.
Pairs well with
More of Australia
Australia is so large, you're best to stick to just this country on your trip, unless you have oodles of time to spend, in which case New Zealand is close by.
Cost factors
Varies - up to you!
Australia, much like the US, can be done in the lap of luxury or as a budget trip. One of the largest costs will be your airfare, which will be highest between December - February (Australia's summer season)
