The Timeless Charm of Vietnam

Vietnam is one of the countries that make up Southeast Asia, and is probably most well known for the eponymous war fought there. While there are definitely historical battle sites that can be visited, Vietnam holds so much more than that - and so many more beautiful things.

Comprised mostly of highlands and rainforests, a trip to Vietnam provides travelers ample opportunity to see mountains to the north, many rich architectural remnants from the former kingdom in the central region, and of course Ho Chi Minh city and the Mekong river delta in the south.

The culture of Vietnam offers a lot to travelers as well. Buddhism is the major religion, and the version practiced most in Vietnam also has ties to Confucianism and Taoism. This is different from Thailand where Buddhism is less blended with other belief systems, so if you've already visited Thailand and have interest in exploring more Buddhist culture, you definitely should check out Vietnam!

Nam Dinh

Much like a lot of the world, Catholicism took hold in Vietnam for a period. It is especially apparent in Nam Dinh, so visiting here reflects a church footprint that is fairly unique. Another reason to visit is the handicrafts. Many of the older ways of making these have been preserved, including silk making from cocoons! This is a great place to support local artisans and purchase unique gifts.

Hue

When Vietnam was an Imperial Dynasty ruled by the Nguyen Lords in the 17th through the 19th centuries, they lived in Hue. Now when visitors come, they can view the imperial citadel and the royal tombs and imagine the dynasties. For those looking to go off the beaten path, this is also the gateway to many rural villages where skilled craftspeople work and sell their products.

Best time to travel
