Colombia - 2023
Colombia is such a beautiful country - so biodiverse and the people are kind and friendly. Also, it isn’t as popular as Europe, so you’ll encounter less of the throngs of people everywhere. It’s no wonder I’ve had two different sets of clients want to travel here this year!
Religion is a big deal
The latest clients to travel here are a mother and son duo who decided upon Bogota and Cartagena, and were very interested in the Salt Cathedral, as they are practicing Catholics. They wanted to walk through and experience each chapel as they contemplated the 14 stations of the cross. They finished in the main nave, and got a great picture together.
Even for those who are not Catholic, this salt cave is quite breathtaking in the beauty and artistry of the carvings. The history is interesting as well, as the salt miners who had been mining this area in the 1930’s decided they would like an altar area to pray and built the first portion. By the ‘50s it was expanded upon, but had to close due to structural concerns in the early 90’s. By 1995 it had reopened and has remained open since.
Taj Mahal in South America?!
On another day tour from Bogota, they visited a replica Taj Mahal. Bet you didn’t realize you could see that so much closer to home! It is in an amusement park called Jaime Duque Park, a 70-acre site with several replicas of world wonders: Russia’s Red Square, the Temple of Zeus and the Colossus of Rhodes from Grecian fame, and of course the lifesize replica of the Taj Mahal. It also includes a zoo, Dinosaur Garden, a battleship, and an aviary!

Everyone should see Colombia
I definitely think that everyone should experience Colombia at some point in their lifetime. There’s way more to see than just Bogota and Cartagena too! For coffee lovers, the coffee region is sure to thrill you; if you’re a fan of birdwatching, there are tons of really amazing species of birds that you can find there; gardeners can see 1000’s of types of orchids found in the country; and dancers will love to explore Cali, the salsa capitol of the world.
