March 6, 2024 - What am I Working On? Poland, Czechia, & Austria
Poland, Czechia, & Austria - 10 days
These clients are celebrating their two kids graduating high school with a big trip to Europe. Their son is very into World War II history, while their daughter loves good architecture and historic places. I think they definitely picked three cities that will fit that bill!
Itinerary
Day 1 - Krakow
Krakow is a modern city with medieval charm. One of the great aspects of Krakow, and much of Poland in general, is that your dollar goes farther, so my clients decided to splurge on a fancier hotel than they would normally stay in!
Day 2 - Old Town Sightseeing
Today they'll be taking a golf cart tour of the old town area of Krakow, before heading to Wawel Castle and the Wieliczka Salt Mine. For ages and ages sodium chloride has been mined from the brine that comes up in Wieliczka, a town near Krakow.
Day 3 - Polish Folk Dancing
During the day today they will have time to explore on their own, but tonight they'll be enjoying an exhibition of Polish Folk Dancing with a delicious buffet of typical Polish fare.
Day 4 - Auschwitz - Birkenau Memorial
A more somber day lies ahead of them today, as they take a tour of the concentration camp and visit the museum to take in all the atrocities committed here.
Day 5 - Krakow to Prague
Today they say goodbye to Poland and hello to Prague in the Czech Republic. Another great city filled with history, and very walkable, they will spend a few days exploring here.
Day 6 - City Tour
Exploring a new city can be done on your own, but sometimes getting your bearings can take a bit. That's why it's nice to do a city tour - it teaches you the backstory of the city as well as gives you a starting off point to explore on your own more.
Day 7 - Kutna Hora
They take a day trip from Prague to the medieval town of Kutna Hora. This town is filled with beautiful gothic architecture, as well as the Sedlec Ossuary, a chapel decorated with human bones.
Day 8 - Prague Castle, then off to Vienna
This morning they'll start bright and early in Prague Castle, exploring the interior architecture and exhibits. Then they'll hop on a train to bring them to their final destination of Vienna!
Day 9 - City Tour & Belvedere Palace
Today they start their first day in Vienna with a city tour before heading over to the Belvedere Palace to explore the opulent interiors. The palace consists of several buildings, including two Baroque style palaces.
Day 10 - Melk, Hallstadt, and Salzburg
My clients decided they'd like to see a little more of Austria than just Vienna, so they opted to take a day trip out of the city to Melk, Hallstadt, and Salzburg. They will be exploring the Hohensalzburg Fortress during their free time in the city.
