May 22, 2024 - Destination Spotlight: Ireland & Northern Ireland

The Emerald Isle - 2 countries in one!

This month you get a twofer as we highlight the island of Ireland and Northern Ireland. And as a reminder, I'm hosting a trip that gets you to Dublin on St. Patrick's Day! You can use the button at the end to sign up if you haven't already!

Nestled in the North Atlantic, the island of Ireland is a land of captivating beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture. Divided into two distinct political entities – the Republic of Ireland to the south and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, to the northeast – the island offers a diverse tapestry of landscapes and experiences. From the rugged cliffs of County Clare's Cliffs of Moher to the verdant hills of County Antrim's Glens, Ireland's natural splendor never fails to enchant visitors. In addition to its breathtaking scenery, the island boasts a wealth of historical and cultural treasures, from ancient Celtic ruins to medieval castles and bustling cosmopolitan cities.

In the Republic of Ireland, Dublin stands as the lively heart of the nation, blending a rich literary heritage with modern urban energy. Visitors can wander through the historic streets of Temple Bar, explore the majestic halls of Trinity College, or soak up the atmosphere in one of the city's many traditional pubs. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland offers its own unique attractions, including the iconic Giant's Causeway, a geological wonder steeped in myth and legend, and the vibrant city of Belfast, where the scars of the past are juxtaposed with a thriving arts and culinary scene.

Whether you're traversing the windswept landscapes of the Wild Atlantic Way (where Star Wars fans can see the Skellig Michael, the island Luke used as a hermitage in The Force Awakens), delving into the tumultuous history of the Troubles, or simply enjoying a pint of Guinness in a cozy pub, the island of Ireland invites you to embark on an unforgettable journey of discovery and adventure. Of course, no trip to Ireland is complete without experiencing its legendary hospitality firsthand. You'll soon be sharing stories with locals in a cozy pub and joining in on a traditional music session, where you'll find that the warmth of the Irish people is as unforgettable as the landscapes that surround you.

So, if you're ready to add a touch of magic to your travel adventures, let Ireland be your next destination (even better if it is with me in March!). Your journey to the Emerald Isle awaits – sláinte!

Aran Islands

For those seeking quieter retreats off the beaten path, consider visiting the Aran Islands. Located off the coast of County Galway, these rugged isles are steeped in Gaelic culture and offer a glimpse into traditional Irish life. Explore ancient forts, cycle along scenic coastal roads, or simply soak in the serenity of island living.

Kilkenny

Nestled in the heart of Ireland's Ancient East, Kilkenny is a town straight out of a storybook. With its winding medieval streets, picturesque riverside walks, and iconic castle towering over the skyline, Kilkenny exudes an irresistible charm that captivates visitors from near and far.
