This month I recommend you grabbing your calendars and figuring out what your plans are for holiday travel - specifically Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa-time. The December holidays are a particularly popular time to travel, as many people's work slows down then and kids are off school, and with that popularity comes increased demand...and increased cost.

For those who want to hike the Inca Trail (which has varying levels of treks available), the permits can go quickly. A good rule of thumb is to book about 8 months in advance. The peak season (and thus most popular for trekkers) is between late March - May and then again September - mid December.
